Over the past 3 decades, the Umag tournament became synonymous with excellent tennis in Croatia, and this year it yet again brings some well-known names.

This year’s ATP Umag will host 11 players from the Top 50, led by the sixth best player in the world, Andrey Rublev.

Four other former Umag champions are set to play alongside Rublev. Given that the tournament will be held on the courts of the tennis centre at the Stella Maris Resort just days before the start of the Olympic Games, this roster is very respectable,

There will be something for everyone at this year’s tournament: some will enjoy the nostalgia of watching the matches of last year’s finalist and 2006 champion, the 39-year old Swiss player Stan Wawrinka, as well as another former winner, the 37-year-old Italian Fabio Fognini (his 12th time in Umag), while others will want to see what the new generation has to offer, led by the 21-year-old Danish player Holger Rune, currently the 15th best player in the world, who will try to make it all the way in what is his third participation in the Umag tournament.

The well-being of all players during their stay in Umag has been entrusted to the main sponsor and Tournament Organisation Committee, chaired by Dragan Pujas, President of the Plava Laguna Management Board.

“I’m confident that this year’s tournament will be even better than the last one, as Plava Laguna has made some additional investments in the tournament, and this Olympic year brought us some amazing players. By organising this tournament on such a high level, we are contributing to the development and promotion of our destination, which is the most important aspect for us. The ATP tournament has put Umag on the map,” said Mr Pujas.

The ITF World Tennis Tour M15 will be held from 6 to 14 July, a chance for lower ranked players to get some ATP points. After that, the Road to Umag tournament is set to take place, where Croatian players will battle it out for the main prize – a wild card to the qualifying round of the Plava Laguna Croatia Open ATP tournament.

As always, the tournament will be accompanied by a number of other events, so visitors will be able to enjoy amazing food and wonderful music experiences, and the atmosphere at Stella Maris will be buzzing throughout July.
