Beaches under Plava Laguna concession have again been awarded Blue Flags, the highest distinction for cleanliness of sea and beach. As of today, the Blue Flag can be seen flying on seven beaches managed by Plava Laguna in Umag. To mark this achievement, a large celebration was held at the Hotel Coral Plava Laguna beach.
The Blue Flag, an ongoing project in Europe since 1987, is focused on protecting seas, beaches, coasts and marinas. In 2000, the project was expanded to include the whole world. The international operator of this project is the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), established in 1981. At the moment, a total of 50 countries worldwide are involved in this project, and all of them are dedicated to sustainable tourism as one of their strategic goals.
The Blue Flag represents an environment that is preserved, safe, comfortable and appropriate for recreation, relaxation and fun. Beaches and marinas awarded the Blue Flag offer quality services, clean and tidy shores and appropriate equipment. This renowned symbol is awarded for a period of one year and exclusively to beaches and marinas which meet very stringent sea and coast quality criteria.
This year, Plava Laguna reaffirmed their Blue Flag status for 7 beaches in Umag and 11 beaches and marinas in Poreč.
In Umag, our Blue Flag beaches are: beach Canova (Camping Park Umag), Hotel Sipar beach, beach Punta (Hotel Umag), beach Laguna (Stella Maris Resort), beach Katoro (Katoro Area), Hotel Coral beach and Hotel Aurora beach.
In Poreč, the Blue Flag was awarded to: camp beaches Ulika, Zelena Laguna and Bijela Uvala, Hotel Villa Galijot beach, Parentium, Molindrio, Materada and Delfin, Lotosi beach at Zelena Resort and the Apartments Bellevue beach. This year, the Blue Flag was also awarded to Marina Parentium.
