Tennis is among the most popular sports in this area. One of the reasons is certainly the fact that Stella Maris Resort in Umag hosts the largest and longest-running ATP tournament in Croatia: Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag.
Since 1990, world-famous tennis players like Novak Đoković, Jannik Sinner, Rafael Nadal, Stan Wawrinka and many others have played at the tournament, while the central stadium can accommodate up to 4,000 spectators and bears the name of the famous Goran Ivanišević, who regularly visits Umag and the tournament.
